Suzanne Rheinstein | Celebration of Life, Style and Elegant Civility

I’m Josh Cooperman and this is Convo By Design. Suzanne Rheinstein, a giant in the industry has left us but not without changing both the nature of interior design but the way in which interior design is experienced by those for whom she crafted.

Suzanne was one of those rare talents who had a signature through-line in her work that has been described as “elegant civility” which was a pulled-focus on fewer, but better. A level of quality that was exceptional but not overpowering which allowed those for whom she worked to experience the different levels of her work, not necessarily all at once but over time. It is the same way other pleasure past-times like wine, art and music are experienced and enjoyed. Rheinstein was a major talent with all of the awards and accolades that you would expect. Her work, like Suzanne, was elegant and timeless.

I wanted to share some of her wit, charm and stories, in her own voice and words from an interview n 2019 at the LaCienega Design Quarter’s Legends event where she was presented with her Living Legend Award.

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you will always long to return. Learning never exhausts the mind. – Leonardo da Vinci.

Celebrating the LaCienega Design Quarter | 269 | Part 3 of 4

In 2019, Convo By Design was an official media sponsor of Legends. I cannot tell you how amazing this was for me and how saddened I was when I learned that because of the coronavirus pandemic, the event was canceled this year. I think what saddens me most is that I personally will miss seeing all my friends and I imagine that many of you listening feel the same way.

It has been such a joy sharing these interviews with you. This is the third of four in this series and you have heard from over half of the designers from the 2019 event. I want to invite you to head over to the Convo By Design YouTube channel to see these windows, these showrooms, and these designers.

So, I wanted to take a look back and share some of the amazing designers from last year’s event. My hope is that this gives you a little bit of joy, I will republish this in a series of episodes so you can hear all about the 2019 designs and showrooms whose windows served as the canvas for these amazing designers. I would also like to again remind you how special the LaCienega Design Quarter is and suggest that when this is all over, please go visit the LCDQ showrooms again.

Celebrating the LaCienega Design Quarter | 268 | Part 2 of 4

The LaCienega Design Quarter exists and functions as a design hub where lovers of design can find what was, what is, what’s new, and what’s next. This design district is special and has seen Los Angeles change from trendy studio town to a global creative powerhouse. It’s not just because there are showrooms with beautiful works displayed, no, it’s more than that. LCDQ is a social glue that bonds this vibrant and diverse community. It is a place to gather, meet, and see. That is exactly what is missing in the Spring of 2020 and what will be again soon, hopefully in the not so distant future. For the past 11 years, Legends has been a celebration of design, showcase for amazing design talent, and social gathering for anyone who loves design. 2019, Convo By Design was an official media sponsor and I cannot tell you how amazing this was for me and how saddened I was to learn that because of the coronavirus pandemic, the event was canceled this year.

I think what saddens me most is that I personally will miss seeing all my friends and I imagine that many of you listening feel the same way. So, I wanted to take a look back and share some of the amazing designers from last year’s event. I also wanted to share the conversations that came out of an eight-day journey that had me riding my bicycle up and down LaCienega, Melrose and Melrose Place securing interviews with these amazing creators, some of whom were in from out of town and had small windows of time for me to hit. But we did it, and you can hear all about it here.

My hope is that this gives you a little bit of joy, I will republish this in a series of episodes so you can hear all about the 2019 designs and showrooms whose windows served as the canvas for these amazing designers. I would also like to remind you how special the LaCienega Design Quarter is and suggest that when this is all over, please go visit the LCDQ showrooms again.
